PCG Slim Player Slabs: A Player-First Form Factor

What is the Slim Player Slab?

The Slim Player Slab from Premier Card Grading (PCG) encases trading cards in a thin, durable plastic holder that fits into standard deck boxes. Unlike traditional bulky slabs, this design allows players to use graded cards in gameplay, particularly in Magic: The Gathering’s Commander format, where the commander card is kept separate and handled often [Premier Card Grading]. This holds true for other games too, including One Piece and Flesh & Blood, which have a similar leader-up-front format of play.

Once encased, the card cannot be removed other than by cracking open the outer shell. Since the card is authenticated by Premier Card Grading, the purchaser of the card can rest assured that they're buying an authentic product. This can be confirmed by scanning the NFC-chipped label that is inside of the outer plastic casing. Using an IR scanner (can be downloaded in the iOS or Android app store), one can pull up the serial number and population report (how many other cards exist for your particular card and grade) from PCG. 

Why It’s Useful for Players

Players of all TCGs are known to spend money on fancy versions of their favorite commanders/leaders, some of which can cost hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars. Grading said cards keeps them in the same condition as the day it was graded, effectively protecting the potential resale value of that card.

Players also like to show-and-tell with their cards to their friends and play group (source: go play a few rounds at your local game store). These clear slabs provide a minimalist, elegant way to showcase your favorite commander, leader, or hero.
